Reiki Courses – You Want To Learn Reiki Too?

So You Want To Learn Reiki?

reiki courses at reiki montrealAt Reiki Montreal, people often come in curious about Reiki specifically, and Energy Medicine at large. They are interested in trying it, healing with it and maybe also learning it by taking the three levels of reiki courses!

When I explain that my Energy Medicine degree took 525 hours of class time, but that a Reiki degree can be done in a few months, some feel pulled to take a Reiki course… so… I always refered them to the teacher I had (although I now teach also!). She was a wonderful fit for me and the best Reiki master I could have asked for.

Because Reiki is accessible to everyone, and can be learned by everyone, I thought that today it would be appropriate to write a little bit more about how one learns this wonderful energy practice.

Is an Online Reiki Degree A Good Idea?

Energy Transcends Space And Time

Well, first of all, it’s important to note that energy transcends the laws of space and time. Your reiki master being far away isn’t as big of a problem as you may think at first.

But… You’re Going To Be Performing Reiki on Others…

Consider the following: who will you want to perform reiki on? If it’s just yourself, an online reiki degree could be just fine.

If it’s on other people… you may want to learn everything that surrounds reiki: how to conduct yourself with someone, how to explain reiki, how to set them at ease. All that, you learn from the contact with a teacher.

If you’re going to be practicing on others, you should get some experience in a controlled environment! That is why in a class setting, you get the most complete training. There are other students with you. They teach you how reiki is received – everyone experiences it differently. They also give you treatments, so that you have first hand experience with receiving reiki. I cannot stress enough how valuable this knowledge is.

Here is a really well-crafted article about the online vs in-person dilemma of learning reiki.

How Do I Pick A Reiki Master Right For Me?

Now that you’ve decided whether you’re going with an online degree or an in-person degree, you need a teacher. In Reiki, we call the teacher the Reiki master. And let’s face it: all teachers are not created equal.

Some have been doing it a long time, some are brand new. Some you click with, some you don’t. Some are gifted teachers, some aren’t. Some live really far, some don’t. Some charge a lot, some don’t. These are all important things to consider when you are choosing a reiki master. Most often though, the right teacher will appear for you when you are ready.

What Exactly Is A Reiki Master?

As an aside here, A reiki master is someone who can attune (or teach) others reiki. In fact, it is not taught in the traditional sense. There are no books, there is no headsy material. Anyone, and I mean anyone can be initiated to Reiki (in other words, take reiki courses). Through a series of attunements given by the reiki master, the student’s energy is channeled and the student is initiated into reiki.

This allows them to also channel life force through their hands. (By the way, you don’t need to be initiated to balance your chakras… simply the presence of hands is already very helpful.)

What Are The Steps To Learning Reiki?

Reiki is taught through three levels + a master level. (Inge has done levels one through three, but is not a reiki master. Not just yet.) The three levels are wonderfully designed.

Level I is an introduction. You are attuned to reiki. You are asked to do a 21 day self-treatment.

Level II is FUN! You are initiated to the different symbols of reiki. You are encouraged to play with reiki! Did you know you can help your plants flourish? Your gas tank last longer? Charge your food (or coffee)? Get your phone battery to last longer? Boost your memory for tests? It’s just wonderful and endless what you can do with energy!

Level 3 varies a little, from what I understand. For some Level 3 makes you a master. In my tradition, we were attuned with another two symbols (and they are wonderful), we were also taught how to use crystals with reiki.

Finally, if you choose to commit to teaching reiki, you can do a masters level.

All throughout you are required to do case studies and really learn to work with people, which is ultimately the point isn’t it?

Should I Do A Reiki Course?

Yes! If you feel pulled to take reiki courses, you should do it!
I encourage anyone with an affinity to learn reiki. It can truly enrich your life (and your plants’, pets’ and the world’s at large!). Find an institution and a Reiki Master that you feel comfortable with.
